Export cabinet parts to Aspire: SVG, DXF and true scale

Understand finished-size cabinet vectors, inches versus millimeters, and the checks to make before creating toolpaths in your CAM software.

What should a cabinet SVG or DXF contain?

A finished-part drawing describes the edge of the part you want to make. A compensated toolpath describes where the cutter center must travel to create that edge. These are different types of geometry.

CabinetCNCPro’s SVG and DXF exports contain finished-size closed part outlines, sheet boundaries and labels. They do not include a second outline offset by the cutter radius. CNC machine files are generated separately.

Why was there a line 0.125 inch outside my part?

For a 0.25-inch cutter, the radius is 0.125 inch. An outside profile toolpath can therefore sit that distance outside the finished edge. The offset distance alone is not proof: inspect the file’s layers and the CAM operation to identify the line.

The subscription edition exports finished-part geometry in SVG and DXF. Apply the required cutter compensation in your CAM workflow once. Do not treat an already compensated path as a finished edge and offset it again.

Check physical units before creating toolpaths

Set the project to inches or millimeters before exporting. The SVG declares physical document dimensions and a matching viewBox. DXF declares drawing units in its header.

After importing, measure a known part in your CAM software. A 24 × 12 inch rectangle should measure 609.6 × 304.8 mm in a metric job. This check is more useful than judging the drawing by its apparent size on screen. Do not scale until you know whether the issue is units or actual geometry.

A practical design-to-CAM sequence

1. Confirm cabinet size, case material thickness, joinery, toe kick and back insets. Review the resulting part list.

2. Review the nesting layout, grain direction and sheet sizes. Export SVG or DXF using the intended units.

3. Import into your CAM job and measure a known part. Keep sheet boundaries and text labels out of part-cutting selections.

4. Select the finished outlines and create the required machining operations with your actual cutter, stock thickness and hold-down method. Review the toolpath preview, origin and Z zero.

5. Verify the setup on your machine and air-cut the first program before cutting stock.

What this workflow does not prove

A correctly scaled drawing does not prove that tool selection, speeds, clearances or fixturing are safe. CabinetCNCPro does not certify an Aspire import or your CNC setup. Decorative door profiles and fixture-dependent hardware operations may need separate shop work.
